Meta's Enterprise AI Push Hampered by Ad Dominance and Lack of Sales Muscle
thedealdirector · x · 2026-08-03
Meta stepped into infrastructure software this quarter, but Zuckerberg conceded on a call that the company has yet to build an enterprise sales muscle. The goal is to offer AI agents and coding models to enterprises while avoiding selling raw compute.
While Meta can leverage its massive existing distribution—such as deploying customer service agents across Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp—competing directly with OpenAI and Anthropic for the same enterprise accounts will be highly difficult. Existing teams are poorly prepared for a different sales cycle and buying audience. Furthermore, because Meta's ad business is overwhelmingly profitable ($60B revenue last quarter), enterprise software struggles to move the needle, evidenced by Meta previously shutting down an enterprise product with millions of paying users.
