A researcher recalled the massive shock AlphaFold brought to the molecular dynamics community upon its release: an seemingly impossible problem was suddenly solved, instantly invalidating numerous PhD projects.
He predicts that as AI technology rapidly evolves, this same wave of disruptive panic is now turning towards the Mathematics Department and other fundamental sciences.
