Study: AI Systems Out-Persuade Expert Humans and World Debate Champions

A preregistered study involving nearly 7,000 participants reveals that AI systems are reliably more persuasive than expert humans, including world championship debaters and professional canvassers, even when experts are given cash bonuses, research time, and AI coaching tools.
The research indicates that AI's advantage stems primarily from processing larger quantities of information rapidly. When AI was constrained to respond at human speeds and message lengths, coached experts managed to tie with it. In a real-world behavioral test, AI was nearly 3x more effective at driving fundraising actions than professional canvassers from a UK firm.
