From UX to AX: Designing Products for AI Agents
davidhoang · x · 2026-08-03
As AI agents increasingly discover tools, interpret context, and act within software systems, design focus is shifting from traditional User Experience (UX) to Agent Experience (AX).
The article outlines four core pillars of building AX:
- Access: Can agents access the product with the right permissions without human intervention?
- Context: Does the LLM have the necessary background and context to utilize the product effectively?
- Tools: Are the right tools built to reduce friction for agents executing tasks?
- Orchestration: Can the product trigger agent runs and pass context seamlessly?
The author expands AX into three distinct categories: Agent Readable, Agent/Human, and Agent-to-Agent, providing a comprehensive design framework for the future of AI-driven software development.
