LLMs Lack Time Perception in Bash: Netizens Propose Action Jingles
akbirthko · x · 2026-08-01
In response to the issue that LLMs lack time perception when running bash commands, a user proposed an interesting workaround: have the models constantly listen to background audio, with specific jingles for each action.
The quoted original post pointed out that a command finishing in 0.2 seconds looks identical to one taking 20 seconds to the model, yet feels completely different to the user. Therefore, time needs to be part of the RL signal during post-training.
