SF Startup Tau Robotics Launches Teleoperated Humanoid Maid Service at $30/Hour
量子位 · wechat · 2026-08-01
US startup Tau Robotics has launched a humanoid robot cleaning service for homes. Although the robot can perform tasks like washing hands, mopping, and picking up trash in its demo, it is entirely teleoperated by humans.
The company employs a strategy of 'remote control first, data collection later' to bridge the current capability gap in embodied AI and kickstart a data flywheel. The service is priced at $30 per hour, significantly cheaper than local human cleaning services.
The article notes that achieving autonomous operation in unstandardized home environments is extremely difficult. The choice of a humanoid form factor over wheeled bases is largely to lower the intuition-mapping barrier for human teleoperators.
