The uv team wrote a custom parser for lockfiles, making it 2-3x faster.
Charlie Marsh notes that before the era of AI agents, the tradeoffs for this optimization wouldn't have made sense. Today, however, an agent completed the initial implementation in just 17 minutes, requiring only about half a day of human work for validation and fuzzing.
