Engineer Slams GenAI Stack: Only 2-3% is Useful, Tech Debt Piling Up

Google engineer Jaana Dogan (rakyll) shared her observations on the current generative AI tech stack.
She noted that since 2022, there has been talk about eventually rewriting the entire GenAI stack from scratch to clean up the mess. However, four years later, the pile is only getting bigger.
She argues that while the stack keeps growing, only 2-3% of it is actually in the critical path of something useful. The past few years have been one of the messiest timeframes in tech, where everything is built with the assumption that it will be removed later, but no one has the time to execute that cleanup.
