Anton Leicht argues in Asterisk Magazine that while panic about AI disruption concentrates in hubs like San Francisco, the countries facing the biggest risks to their economic welfare and security are those without a domestic frontier AI developer.

The essay suggests that even if AI built in the US is perfectly safe and aligned, it could disrupt non-AI-building nations even more. If their institutions and labor markets are unprepared for the transition, their citizens risk being consigned to lasting irrelevance, creating a permanent periphery in the new world order.
