The author points out that the evolution of memes in an information ecosystem is not strictly limited by peer review or real-world replicability, but rather by competition within the ecosystem. The advent of Large Language Models (LLMs) acts as a new source of mutation, continuously generating a massive amount of new memes.
Although the vast majority of LLM-generated memes might be 'trash,' this fundamentally increases information diversity, thereby enhancing the chances of producing memes that successfully adapt and survive in the ecosystem.
