The author asserts that the core skill sets and underlying mindsets required for these two technological paradigms are fundamentally different.
Cloud is essentially an infrastructure consumption model focused on resource migration and cost optimization, whereas AI strategy is about model development approaches, internal optimization, and critical data deployment decisions. Over the past decade, many cloud strategy leads pushed thousands of applications onto public clouds without fully understanding the consequences, resulting in exorbitant costs. If these individuals continue to guide AI strategy with the same brute-force mindset, companies could face even greater disasters. AI requires a completely new set of expertise and decision-making logic; simply changing a job title does not grant the corresponding capability.
