AI Analysis of 40,000 CT Scans Links Artery Inflammation to 30x Death Risk
EricTopol · x · 2026-07-31
Based on AI analysis of coronary arteries via non-invasive CT-angio in 40,000 consecutive patients, researchers identified critical cardiovascular risk indicators:
- 1 inflamed artery is linked to a 13-fold risk of cardiac death.
- 3 inflamed arteries correlate with a 30-fold risk of cardiac death.
- The inflammation risk for heart attacks and death is independent of obstructions (blockages), meaning it is present even without any blockage.
Recently, the FDA approved the first AI to quantify coronary artery inflammation. With AI, the medical community can now uncover previously unobtainable cardiovascular risks.
