AlphaFold Predicts Sperm-Egg Fusion Complex, Acting as a Molecular Microscope

A stunning result shared at the CSHL AI in Bio conference: researchers used AlphaFold Multimer to predict the in silico structure of a ten-subunit complex that controls sperm-egg fusion.
The complex is so intricate that the research group hasn't been able to empirically validate the structure yet, but every line of experimentation supports the AI structural model. This demonstrates how AI models act as a "molecular microscope," seeing what traditional methods cannot detect and highlighting the massive potential of molecular machine learning in the coming years.
