OpenAI Slashes GPT-5.6 Luna API Price by 80%, Outperforming Rivals

OpenAI announced significant price reductions across several models to improve cost efficiency and speed. The API price for GPT-5.6 Luna was slashed by 80%, GPT-5.6 Terra by 20%, and a faster option for GPT-5.6 Sol was introduced.
According to OpenAI, on professional workloads (measured by Agents' Last Exam), Luna outperforms Fable 5 at an estimated cost per task that is nearly 99% lower. It also matches previous frontier-class models at roughly 6 cents on the dollar with nearly 9x the speed, while auto-review in Codex now costs about 10x less.
