Handroid: A Reconfigurable Robot Shifting Between Humanoid and Dexterous Hand

Researchers from Stanford and UNC Chapel Hill introduced Handroid, a reconfigurable robot that physically transforms between a "bipedal humanoid" and a "dexterous hand."
Core Design:
- Shared Mechanical Grammar: Uses the same compact modular joints (27-DoF) reassigned as fingers, arms, or legs depending on whether the task requires locomotion or manipulation.
- Fully 3D-Printed & Modular: Easy to fabricate with open-source hardware (CAD and BOM provided).
Demonstrations:
- Humanoid Mode: Capable of basic locomotion like squatting and moving, and even performing push-ups and pull-ups.
- Dex-Hand Mode: Integrates with Diffusion Policy for grasping tasks like lifting a basketball, stacking cups, and placing bottle caps, plus finger teleoperation.
