Ghostwriter: An Open-Source Plugin for AI-Generated Terminal Tab Titles
smtabatabaie · x · 2026-07-30
Developer dabit3 open-sourced ghostwriter, a zsh plugin for the Ghostty terminal emulator. Since Ghostty lacks a native plugin system, this tool watches shell activity and dynamically sets tab titles using standard terminal escape sequences (OSC 2).
It asynchronously calls an AI model in the background to transform long, messy file paths into concise project names (e.g., turning /opensource/experiments/ghostty-plugin into Ghostty plugin), improving window management for multi-tasking terminal users.
