ChatGPT’s query fan-outs now heavily favor .gov sources on legal questions

The poster says ChatGPT is now using site: searches very frequently inside Query Fan-Outs for certain queries, and that this resembles Google’s 2020 E-E-A-T behavior where only the most authoritative sites could compete.

In the legal example shown, ChatGPT limits all fan-outs to .gov domains and repeatedly includes the word "official". The cited results are 100% government domains even though the user prompt does not explicitly ask for government-only information.

The author argues this shows a strong authority bias for YMYL-style questions, making it hard for non-government sources to surface in the answer.
