dfinke · x · 2026-07-29
Anthropic says MCP 2026-07-28 is now live, calling it the biggest update since launch.
What changed
- Stateless core: MCP moves from a bidirectional stateful protocol to a request/response model, which should make servers easier to deploy on serverless and edge infrastructure.
- Standardized extensions: MCP Apps and Tasks now come with a versioned extensions framework for features such as interactive UIs and long-running work.
- Auth hardening: Authorization now aligns with production OAuth 2.0 and OIDC, making enterprise identity integration with systems like Entra or Okta easier.
The blog also says MCP has passed 400M monthly SDK downloads and is now being rolled out across Claude products.
