Experienced web developer says Claude Opus 4.8 and 5 are now unusable for chat

A long Reddit post from an experienced web developer says Claude Opus 4.8 and 5 have become unusable for his chat workflows.
He says Claude Code is still fine when tightly constrained with a well-tuned CLAUDE.md, but Claude.ai chat now produces:
- overly verbose walls of text despite short-response instructions,
- garbled syntax and hard-to-read structure,
- confident but wrong answers followed by backtracking.
He reports using 4.6 instead for most planning and research tasks, and asks whether others have found a way to get legible, sensible responses from Opus 4.8 or 5.
