MCP v5 adds interactive UI, stateless serverless support and enterprise auth
aigclink · x · 2026-07-29
- MCP v5 is presented as a major step toward commercialization: outputs can now render interactive UI directly inside chat instead of plain text.
- The protocol also shifts from a stateful bidirectional connection to a stateless request/response model, which makes serverless and edge deployments much easier to scale.
- Two extensions are moving into the official standard:
- MCP Apps: servers can render interactive UI in the conversation.
- Tasks: long-running jobs without changing the core protocol.
- Enterprise-ready auth is aligned with OAuth 2.0 / OIDC, so MCP servers can plug into identity systems like Entra and Okta.
- Anthropic is said to support the new MCP v5 spec in Claude, adding inline interactive UI, managed enterprise auth, developer observability, and a research-preview MCP Tunnels feature for connecting private-network servers without exposing them publicly.
