Slowdown letter signatures skew heavily toward Anthropic, OpenAI and DeepMind labs
iamtrask · x · 2026-07-29
A cited breakdown of the slowdown letter’s signatures shows a highly uneven split across labs:
- Anthropic: 546 / 5,567, or 9.8%
- OpenAI: 350 / 10,473, or 3.3%
- Google / DeepMind: 199 / 10,219, or 1.9%
- Total: 1,095 / 26,259, or 4%
The accompanying comment argues that labs without cloud businesses are the most enthusiastic about signing, and suggests that some of that enthusiasm may be driven more by competitive self-protection than by a sincere desire to slow AI down.
