uv 0.12.0 adds pre-release dependency support and marks the release as breaking
charliermarsh · x · 2026-07-29
uv 0.12.0 is out with expanded support for pre-release dependencies and dozens of issue fixes.
The release is marked as a breaking release, although the maintainers expect most users to upgrade without code changes. The notes also say there are no breaking changes to the uv build backend configuration itself; the main compatibility caveat is that projects pinning uvbuild in [build-system] may need to loosen the upper bound to allow uvbuild 0.12.
Overall, the release focuses on correctness, safety, and compatibility, while preserving a mostly smooth upgrade path for existing users.
