Ethan Mollick says he is hesitant to call the work “slop” in the usual sense of low-quality, cliched AI text.

His point is that people may genuinely like the output, and its merit should not be judged only against the average human-written romance or similar genre fiction. Even if it is not “slop” in the pejorative sense, he argues it still matters as evidence that AI is changing human work.
