Palantir bootcamp pitch says customers want sovereignty across data, compute and models

After a day with 101 companies at Palantir’s Sovereignty Bootcamp, the author argues that software vendors often force customers into a false choice: standardize their business around the vendor’s box, or customize heavily and inherit permanent technical debt.

The core message is that “sovereignty” matters at every layer of the stack, not just the model layer: storage sovereignty, data sovereignty, compute sovereignty, and model sovereignty all need to serve the business process that makes a company unique. The post also warns that vendors acting in bad faith toward customers will face a rough time as buyers grow more fed up.
