January 6, 2026 draft release of Speech and Language Processing adds cleanup updates, new speech chapters, and a reworked LLM section

Stanford professors Dan Jurafsky and James H. Martin released a new draft of the third edition of Speech and Language Processing on January 6, 2026.

This release is mainly a cleanup and bug-fixing pass.
The earlier August draft added larger changes, including:
DPO in Chapter 9
new ASR and TTS chapters
a restructured LLM chapter
Unicode support in Chapter 2
The authors published a single PDF for the January draft and invite instructors and readers to use the chapters and slides in class.
They also ask readers to send typos and comments by email to help improve the book further.
