Building an AI replacement for Microsoft Office, for instance, could cost 11 times the license fee (an estimated $343,000). Beyond the initial build costs, the ultimate financial delta could stem from multi-million-dollar breaches caused by AI security holes. However, the author notes that the real threat might not be DIY solutions, but rather AI giants like OpenAI and Anthropic directly replacing commercial software with their own offerings.
