Developer Creates AI Robot Toy to Teach Endangered Indigenous Languages

To combat the loss of Indigenous languages, developer Danielle Boyer created SkoBot, a customizable AI toy robot designed to get Indigenous children excited about learning their endangered native languages, such as Anishinaabemowin.

Her mentee, Holden, is currently building his own SkoBot using coding and electrical circuitry skills. Children can interact with the robot via voice—for instance, asking, "What is bear?" and the robot responds with the Indigenous word and repeats it, leveraging AI for cultural preservation.
