MCP Protocol's Largest Update: Moves to Stateless Core, Introduces Server-Rendered UIs

Model Context Protocol (MCP) has released the release candidate for its 2026-07-28 specification, which is set to be finalized tomorrow. This marks the largest revision since the protocol's inception.
Key highlights of this update include:
- Stateless Protocol Core: The handshake and session are gone. Production deployments can now run behind plain round-robin load balancers, route traffic via an Mcp-Method header, and leverage caching.
- First-Class Extensions: Introduces the Extensions framework. MCP Apps enables server-rendered user interfaces, while the Tasks extension handles long-running operations.
- Authorization Hardening: Aligns more closely with OAuth and OpenID Connect deployments, adopting full JSON Schema 2020-12 for tools.
- Formal Deprecation Policy: Roots, Sampling, and Logging are officially deprecated in favor of a structured evolution path.
