MCP’s next spec makes the core stateless and ships July 28 with Tasks and MCP Apps

The latest MCP release candidate introduces a major protocol revision: a stateless core, first-class extensions, Tasks, MCP Apps, hardened authorization, and a formal deprecation policy.
It is meant to make remote MCP servers easier to run on ordinary HTTP infrastructure: no sticky sessions or shared session store, routing via the Mcp-Method header, and cacheable tools/list responses when ttlMs allows. The final specification is scheduled to ship on July 28, 2026.

- Stateless protocol core for simpler scaling
- Extensions framework, including server-rendered UI via MCP Apps
- Tasks promoted to an extension for long-running work
- Authorization aligned more closely with OAuth/OIDC deployments
- Formal deprecation policy to reduce breaking-change pain
