OpenAI brings ChatGPT Voice to desktop, adding hands-free agent control

OpenAI has added ChatGPT Voice to its desktop app, letting users issue hands-free commands to control agents and run tasks on their computers.

The new desktop mode is powered by the ChatGPT-Live voice model family. OpenAI says it works with ChatGPT Work and Codex, can use computer-use skills to browse websites and apps, and on macOS can access what’s on screen via Appshots.

Compared with the earlier smartphone voice mode, the desktop version is more action-oriented: users can chain multi-step commands, respond when ChatGPT needs input, and even ask it to create a thread, open a pull request, and debug a bug in one flow.
