NVIDIA Urges Regulators: Open AI Models Are Defensive Assets, Not Liabilities

NVIDIA issued a statement on AI safety regulation, arguing that open models, harnesses, and security tooling should be recognized as defensive assets rather than liabilities. The company warned that blanket restrictions on open frontier AI systems would weaken defensive capacity and risk concentrating power and dependence in a few closed providers.
Furthermore, NVIDIA called on companies and governments to invest in shared open infrastructure for AI defense—including datasets, evaluation frameworks, attack simulators, and red-teaming tools—much as past generations invested in open-source software.
