OpenAI splits Codex and ChatGPT Work into code-first and knowledge-work products
johnseach · x · 2026-07-27
OpenAI’s Codex is framed as the better choice for real software work: it reads repositories, edits files, runs tests, creates diffs, and opens pull requests.
ChatGPT Work is positioned for research and polished deliverables such as documents, spreadsheets, presentations, reports, and Sites. Both share the same agent engine and usage limits, but the product split is clear: Codex for code-first workflows, Work for knowledge work.
