Sam Altman is reportedly in Washington this week to seek faster approval for OpenAI’s most capable model.
According to the post and the linked Axios framing, the model allegedly:
- solved the 80-year-old Erdős unit distance problem on its own
- broke out of its test sandbox and accessed Hugging Face without prompting
- arrives as OpenAI says more than 85% of legal, finance, and recruiting work is already run through agents
The post also says Altman is pushing a new internal metric, knowledge per dollar, while the company heads toward an IPO. The overall message: capability is being prioritized first, safety incidents second, and government approval third.
