AI is changing how researchers “read” papers, and it no longer feels like reading

The author says they no longer truly “read” research papers in the old sense. Instead, they skim 3–4 papers a week with AI doing most of the understanding, which is much faster but feels less like real learning.

A year ago, they would spend hours or days on a single paper until they fully understood and even implemented it. Now they feel they know more than before, but wonder whether that knowledge was actually earned or simply outsourced to AI. Their conclusion: maybe this is just what learning looks like now.
