Cotan2 creator says the AI mesh editor may not keep evolving as models build custom apps faster

The creator of Cotan2 says the project may not be developed much further, despite believing it could be a strong mesh-based 3D design tool.
- Cotan2 started as a focused prototype for mesh-based biomedical CAD.
- Over the past two years, it evolved into a sandbox for speeding up traditional mesh and texture editing with AI.
- The author says Claude Code has made them dramatically more productive, to the point that they question whether broad, UI-heavy “general user” DCC tools still make sense.
- Their conclusion: software that exposes a wide capability set behind a traditional interface may struggle when models can assemble custom apps on demand.
