Anthropic cuts Claude Code’s system prompt 80% and adds a /doctor audit command
tenequm · reddit · 2026-07-25
Anthropic says Claude Code’s system prompt for the Claude 5 models has been cut by about 80%, and it has also published guidance on what should still live in CLAUDE.md and skills.
- Many hard rules are gone, with the model now expected to use judgment on things like comment policy.
- Tool descriptions are meant to constrain the new models more than front-loading everything into one prompt file.
- Anthropic recommends a tree of files that load only when needed instead of one huge CLAUDE.md.
- A new /doctor command audits CLAUDE.md and skills for rules written for older models.
