AI Researcher Questions Open Source Coalition: Some Vendors Only Open Because They Aren't Frontier

AI researcher Janus Jitsev pointed out during a discussion that companies like Palantir have obvious motives. He questioned whether many in the open-source coalition only release models open because they are not actually close to the frontier level. He noted he would feel more confident in a coalition without vendor lock-in and with an open frontier ambition for both academia and industry.
