NVIDIA backs open weights in a 25-company letter on AI leadership
elonmusk · x · 2026-07-25
NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang’s first post on X is a joint letter backing open weights, signed by 25 companies including Meta, Microsoft, Hugging Face, Mistral, and Mozilla.
The letter argues that open models:
- improve safety and cybersecurity
- accelerate innovation and diffusion
- reduce vendor lock-in and help companies pick the right model for the right task
- support sovereignty by letting countries and organizations run models on their own infrastructure
It frames the future as a mix of frontier closed models and frontier open models, not an either-or choice.
