Vivek Haldar backs KYC for unrestricted model access

Vivek Haldar says he agrees with Chamath’s idea: do KYC on users and let them access unrestricted models. His argument is straightforward — if someone uses a model for criminal activity, the provider should be able to identify them later.

He compares the idea to banking and money laundering: banks already know who you are through KYC, but they do not intervene on every normal transaction. In his view, model access could work the same way: keep the product open, then rely on user identification and ex post enforcement when necessary.

The post is less about a specific policy proposal than about a broader philosophy of model access, liability, and how much friction should sit in front of powerful AI systems.
