AI agents may need payment insurance before users trust them with real budgets

If AI agents are going to spend real money, the missing layer may be payment insurance.
The post argues that today users usually eat the loss when an agent buys the wrong item, double-charges after a retry, or pays for a service that never delivers. The proposal: attach a small protection fee to each agent payment, and let users file a provable claim using the mandate, payment record, retries, and delivery receipt.
It is not about buyer’s remorse or bad recommendations. The failure would have to be demonstrable from the agent’s instructions and transaction trail.
The author says the payment rails already exist — x402, wallets, cards, and agentic checkout — but confidence is still missing if people are to hand agents meaningful budgets.
