Notion acquires ZeroEntropy and its reranker ships open source under Apache 2.0

Notion has acquired ZeroEntropy, and the whole team is joining the company.
- ZeroEntropy says Notion AI was already using its reranker, zerank-2, and it had replaced larger competitors with 85% lower latency.
- As part of the deal, ZeroEntropy’s models are being released as open source under Apache 2.0 on Hugging Face, with no commercial license required.
- Existing ZeroEntropy products will remain supported until September 4, 2026, then be sunset.
