ChatGPT helped surface an IDH1 mutation that changed one patient’s cancer diagnosis

OpenAI shares a case study of Kiley, who was first told she had glioblastoma and was initially given only months to live. After living scan to scan for years, her husband used ChatGPT to help parse a dense MRI report and then traced the issue back to her original biopsy records.

That process surfaced an IDH1 mutation, which her neuro-oncologist confirmed. Under updated medical standards, her tumor was not glioblastoma but an IDH-mutant astrocytoma with a different prognosis. The care plan shifted from crisis mode to long-term management, and the couple says they can now plan for the future.
