NVIDIA backs an open-source AI coalition with Meta, Microsoft and Mistral

NVIDIA is backing an open-source AI coalition alongside Meta, Microsoft, Mistral, Hugging Face, IBM, Mozilla, Palantir and others.
The post argues that open models let companies and countries inspect, modify and run AI on their own infrastructure, which can mean:
- less dependence on a few providers
- more control over data and models
- cheaper, specialized AI systems
- better access for cybersecurity researchers
- greater technological sovereignty
The core message is that the world needs both frontier closed models and frontier open models, and that open source AI should remain legal and available.
