NVIDIA backs an open-model letter as Jensen Huang says both frontier closed and open models are needed
Jensen Huang said NVIDIA signed a letter arguing that open models matter because AI will reshape every industry and be built by every country.
- The letter says open models can:
- strengthen safety and cybersecurity
- accelerate innovation and diffusion
- support sovereignty
- Arav Srinivas said Perplexity is co-signing the letter as well, and thanked a16z for organizing it.
- Huang’s core position is that the ecosystem needs both frontier closed models and frontier open models, rather than treating them as mutually exclusive.
