Neuralink is testing a brain-computer interface that lets a participant control a powered wheelchair using only thought.
- The implant uses more than 1,000 electrodes on over 100 ultra-thin threads placed in the motor cortex.
- A machine-learning system translates the detected neural activity into cursor movements, enabling driving, reversing, steering, and seat adjustment without using the hands.
- Participants can also use a live camera feed from the wheelchair to navigate real-world environments.
- The device is still investigational, but the result points toward restoring mobility and independence for people with paralysis.
