AI labs sell recursive self-improvement because 8% progress sounds too small

Josh Albrecht argues that AI labs keep talking about recursive self-improvement because steady progress is a poor pitch for a trillion-dollar company.

His point is that saying a model is “about to escape human comprehension” sounds far more compelling than admitting the business is just spending another $20 billion for an 8% chatbot improvement.
