Musk says OpenAI and Anthropic created knock-on effects that sped up AI

Musk argued that AI acceleration now looks unavoidable: the only realistic goal is to minimize the chance of a bad outcome.
He said he initially stayed out of AI, then helped create OpenAI as a counterweight to Google. But the creation of OpenAI — and later Anthropic’s spin-out — produced knock-on effects that accelerated the field, even though that was not his intention. His takeaway: the industry is moving faster no matter what, so people can either be unhappy about it or accept it.
