LukeW: LLMs End WIMP Interfaces, Shifting Software to Human-Centric Interaction
LukeW · x · 2026-07-24
UX expert Luke Wroblewski argues that traditional software built around computer capabilities—such as Windows, Icons, Menus, and Pointers (WIMP)—imposes a high cognitive load on users who have to constantly interpret menus and icons.
He notes that the "world knowledge" embedded in large AI models is shifting this paradigm. We can now use flexible, human-centric approaches—like simply stating what we want—to get things done, fundamentally changing how we interact with software.
