A sales agent can be wrong even when every step is grounded
Harshit-24 · reddit · 2026-07-23
A Reddit builder argues that the real risk in sales agents is not bad copy, but confidently acting on a false buying signal.
The post gives a concrete failure mode: an agent sees hiring activity, infers expansion, researches the account, drafts outreach, updates the CRM, and schedules follow-ups — every step can be correct while the underlying interpretation is wrong.
The author proposes that agents should record:
- the original source
- when the evidence was observed
- whether another source confirms it
- the interpretation made by the agent
- confidence in that interpretation
- what evidence would contradict it
- whether a human approved the action
The main question is how builders should separate “this event happened” from “this event indicates intent.”
