A decade-old “open problem” is often just one nobody noticed or bothered to solve

The post riffs on a common academic claim: “our work solved a X-year-old open problem.”
The point is that this wording often overstates significance. In practice, it can simply mean nobody knew about the problem, or nobody cared enough to solve it before.
